Definitions

Hospice is the philosophy of care that regards death as a natural process, prioritizes comfort and quality of life over quantity of life as death draws near and supports the cultural and spiritual aspects of dying.  Hospice is palliative care at the end-of-life.

Palliative care, which may be provided at any time over the course of an illness, is a growing medical specialty that provides expert pain and symptom relief as well as emotional support and help navigating the healthcare system for patients and families.
